In the fourth quarter of 2024, the top five social networking applications on a unified platform in the United States showcased varying trends in downloads, revenue, and active users. According to data from Sensor Tower, these insights provide a window into the dynamics of the social networking landscape.

Threads from Instagram, Inc. exhibited fluctuating weekly downloads, starting at approximately 1.3M and peaking at 1.3M in mid-October before gradually declining to around 775K by the end of December. Active users showed a general upward trend, starting at 34.6M and rising to 39.2M by the end of the quarter.

WhatsApp Messenger maintained a stable pattern in weekly downloads, ranging from 558K to 783K throughout the quarter. Active users hovered around 115M to 119M, indicating steady engagement. Revenue was negligible, with only a minor increase in early October.

Facebook reported consistent weekly revenue, ranging from $854K to $1.1M, with a peak at the start of the quarter. Downloads remained stable, fluctuating between 528K and 618K, while active users consistently hovered around 220M.

Telegram Messenger saw a steady increase in weekly revenue, reaching a high of approximately $1.1M in late November. Downloads varied, starting at 544K and ending around 478K. Active users showed a slight increase, from 39.1M to 40.4M.

Bluesky Social experienced a surge in downloads mid-quarter, with a peak of 1.3M in mid-November, before tapering off to 104K by the end of December. Active users rose sharply to 4.3M in late November before settling at around 3.2M.
